Epilogue
The fun summer vacation ended, and the seasons marched steadily toward autumn.
That being said, the lingering heat was unforgiving. Even as the new school term began in September, the world was still dragging the remnants of summer along with it.
Kiyoko and Kouya's daily lives remained as unchanged as ever.
"Aren't you going to be late meeting your friends for bowling?"
Early Saturday afternoon. Kiyoko asked the question as Kouya messed around on his smartphone in the second-floor living room.
"Wanna come too, Kiyoko-san?" Kouya casually invited his housemate.
It was just a rally with his friends for the upcoming culture festival, so he didn't mind if one more person tagged along. Though, the moment she participated, she'd probably end up being worked to the bone until the festival actually arrived.
"I have no intention of tagging along for something that isn't even a job."
"...That ain't exactly how a kid's brain should work."
"More importantly, Kouya-kun. Aren't you going to be late?"
The second reminder.
Kouya shot a quick glance at the wall clock. They were supposed to meet at two, and it was just past one. The meeting spot was only about a fifteen-minute walk away, so he had plenty of time to spare.
"It's still early."
"It is not good to keep your friends waiting, is it? (Translation: I want to be alone, so please leave already.)"
"..."
Kouya accurately sensed Kiyoko's inner voice.
It's my day off, and I want to stretch my wings by myself, so get out.
He felt exactly like a weary salaryman being kicked out of the house by his wife on a Sunday.
"...I'm heading out."
Taking the hint, he reluctantly headed for the entrance.
Honestly, he was way too much of a pushover. By all rights, Kiyoko—a freeloader with zero blood ties to the family—was the one who ought to be holding back.
Now, how am I gonna kill time until we meet up? As the boy pondered this, Kiyoko called out to his retreating back.
"You are going to the bowling alley right next to the cake shop, correct?"
Looking back, he saw Kiyoko beaming at him with a wide smile.
—She's demanding something.
"...Want me to bring back souvenirs?"
"Oh, you do not need to go out of your way for me. (Translation: Please, by all means, bring back some cake.)"
Waving her hand lightly, the two-faced Kiyoko-san from Kyoto saw her housemate off.
As an aside, Kouya did indeed bring back cake as a souvenir, and it goes without saying that Kiyoko remained in a remarkably good mood for the rest of the day.

Even if there is a statute of limitations on love.
The girl from Kyoto quietly thought to herself.
—As long as I wish it, is it alright if I keep on loving you?
The End
