Epilogue
“What do I do now…? Should I go back to the military for a bit…?” I mumbled.
“Goin’ back won’t fix anything,” Sherry said flatly.
“Yeah… you’re right…” I sighed.
After partin’ ways with Portman and the others, we headed home.
I was feelin’ down, shoulders slumped, when Natalie threw her arms around me.
“Ehehe~ Don’t worry, TakasÄ«~ I’ll protect ya~” she chirped, way too chipper.
“…You’re in a damn good mood. What’s up?”
“You said it, didn’t ya~? You’re gonna make us happy~ I was so freakin’ thrilled~” Natalie’s voice was softer, her clinginess pushin’ past her usual limits.
What’s this? She in heat or somethin’?
“Hey, keep your hands outta my clothes. What, you wanna get jumped?” I snapped.
Natalie’s face went beet red, but she laughed. “Bring it on… come at me…”
“What’re you startin’ on your own? Don’t forget I’m right here,” Sherry cut in, her voice icy.
Natalie pulled a few bills from her wallet. “Here, take a hundred grand and get lost for four hours. Gotta nurture some love with TakasÄ«~”
“Cheap. I’ll give you a million to scram, Natalie-san. Honestly, I’m feelin’ it too!” Sherry shot back.
“No way~ I’ll raise you ten million. That good enough~?” Natalie grinned.
“Fufufu… I’ll throw in my entire fortune! Hell, I’ll take on debt if I have to!” Sherry countered.
“I told you to stop wastin’ money!” I growled, clampin’ iron claws on both their heads.
How many times today…? This ain’t a damn comedy routine…
When we got home, Nee-san came rushin’ over, lookin’ panicked.
“T-Tak-kun! Thank god! You’re okay!” she gasped.
“Okay…?”
Right, it’s past eight already…
Got so caught up, I forgot to tell Nee-san I’d be late.
“Sorry. Didn’t mention I’d be late. I’ll be careful next time.”
“…Huh?” Nee-san blinked, confused.
Like she didn’t get what I was sayin’.
“What’s wrong?”
“T-Tak-kun… you haven’t seen the news…?” Her voice trembled.
“News?”
“They’ve been runnin’ the same breaking news over and over…” Nee-san turned her phone toward me.
The screen showed Olivia, the international pop diva.
“It’s Olivia. Still got that smug-ass face…” I muttered.
“Tak-kun… you know Olivia Stagea…?” Nee-san’s eyes widened.
“Met her at a wartime morale show. She was a total pain, super arrogant,” I said, gettin’ pissed just thinkin’ about it.
But I’m a grown-up, so I’ll handle it like one. Hmph!
“Tak-kun… c-can you listen to this…?” Nee-san hesitantly played a video from a streaming site.
Olivia’s voice filled the air.
“Where are you…? You left me behind and went somewhere… Even now… in the crowd… I’m searching for you…”
A love song?
Catchy melody, not bad at all.
She’s called a diva for a reason. Annoyin’ as hell, but talented.
“On the battlefield… you saved me… You fought off the Space Invaders…”
It’s a good song, but what’s this got to do with anything?
Nee-san’s face was gettin’ desperate.
“Oh… my beloved Takashi… I love you… You stole my everything… Where are you…?”
“…Huh?”
Hold on.
Did those lyrics just…?
Did I hear Takashi?
“Oh… Takashi… Shibuzaki Takashi! Where are you!? Show yourself!! Japan!? You’re in Japan!? I’m comin’ for you!!”
“What the hell is this idiot sayin’!? Is she outta her damn mind!?” I yelled, jabbin’ at the phone.
Nee-san’s face kept twitchin’.
“U-Um… the news has been going wild with ‘Who’s Shibuzaki Takashi?’ ‘Cause the world’s pop diva dropped this crazy new single…” she explained.
“Harassment…? This is gonna spiral outta control…” I slumped, defeated.
Natalie and Sherry grinned, their faces practically gleamin’ with mischief.
“No way a hero who saved the world can live quietly~” Natalie teased.
“It’s only gonna get crazier. All those military idiots’ll probably start flooding Japan,” Sherry added.
“It’s gonna be a fun everyday life, TakasÄ«~” Natalie chirped.
“Can’t wait, TakasÄ«-kun.” Sherry smirked.
They mockin’ me…? Why’re they so damn happy about this…?
As I racked my brain for a way outta this mess, Sherry’s carefree voice rang out.
“TakasÄ«-kun, back from the battlefield. Can’t live a normal high school life.”
