(They’re… kissing!?)
Hoshimiya Sei’s eyes widened.
Peeking through the classroom door’s small window to avoid being seen, she caught her sister kissing.
Of course, it was just a cute peck on Youhei’s cheek… but Sei was so shaken, her legs trembled.
(I haven’t even done that yet… and Hime-chan’s racing ahead!)
She hadn’t expected her little sister to start climbing the ladder of adulthood first.
The student council meeting had ended earlier than anticipated. Knowing the two were waiting in the classroom, she’d hurried over and peeked inside on a whim—only to stumble upon this shocking scene.
(A kiss means Youhei confessed, right!? I see… I see!)
As someone cheering for their romance, she was naturally curious about how it’d turn out.
Witnessing them connect in the best possible way, Sei felt a wave of sentimentality.
Plus, if she barged in now, her odd behavior would probably give away that she’d been watching. Hime and Youhei were still close, so she decided to give them a moment.
Taking her eyes off them, she leaned against the wall.
“Phew…”
She took a deep breath, placing a hand on her chest.
Her heart was racing—no surprise after that shock.
But there were no negative feelings. Her chest felt warm, her head light.
Confirming that, Sei gave a small smile.
(I really love Hime-chan so much.)
She was celebrating.
Sei was genuinely thrilled her sister’s love had come to fruition.
(I thought I might feel a little jealous…)
Youhei was someone she’d considered liking, after all.
But maybe it wasn’t even the start of a crush.
She’d braced for a pang of heartbreak. But her love for her sister was so strong, she felt nothing but joy.
If anything, the happiness was overwhelming, and Sei felt glad.
(Am I… kind of a huge siscon?)
She loved her sister that much.
So much that she was almost jealous of Youhei instead of Hime.
Of course, it was a light feeling—like a father fondly sending off his daughter, heartwarming in its own way.
(I’ll keep watching over them both.)
Hime’s happiness was Sei’s happiness.
(Hmm, Youhei as a brother wouldn’t be bad either.)
That possibility loomed large for the future.
And it wasn’t a bad thing for Sei. She’d always wanted a brother, so it felt just right.
Their days would surely be even livelier than before.
Thinking about it, Sei smiled unconsciously.
“…Ufufu. Sniff.”
She laughed, then wiped away a sudden tear.
(I’m so happy for you… Really, Hime-chan, I’m so happy.)
Sei always got teary when it came to her sister.
Hime, with her genius, had been lonely for so long. Sei vividly remembered how, as a child, she struggled to open up to others and seemed so isolated.
As her sister, Sei had done everything she could. But there was a hole in Hime’s heart that family alone couldn’t fill, and that had always worried her.
(Even if something happens to me, she’ll be okay now.)
What would happen to Hime if Sei wasn’t around?
That fear had haunted her. She could be there for now, but nothing was guaranteed forever.
One day, Hime would have to stand on her own.
That thought had filled Sei with dread.
But knowing Youhei would be by her side gave Sei such relief that she couldn’t help but cry.
(N-No good. I can’t let them see Onee-chan crying!)
She fought back the tears welling up.
Thanks to her resolve as a big sister, they stopped quickly.
(…Is it about time?)
She peeked through the door’s window again.
Hime and Youhei had settled down, eating snacks together happily. It was their usual scene. It seemed safe for Sei to join them now.
“Hey there! Your Onee-chan’s here~!”
To announce herself, she flung the sliding door open with extra force and called out.
Acting as her usual cheerful, carefree sister, she pretended she hadn’t seen their kiss.
“Oh, it’s Onee-chan. You’re earlier than I expected.”
“Yup! It was just a quick meeting to kick off the term, so it wrapped up fast. Ooh, you’re eating something yummy~”
“Here, Sei-san, have some.”
“Really!? Then, don’t mind if I do~!”
…The two were acting completely normal.
They had no idea Sei had been watching.
Confirming that, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
And so, the trio’s daily life began anew—
